KilkennyMusic.com Fundraiser - Can You Help?
We’re fund raising for video camera equipment to enable us to do several things
- Start broadcasting our gigs online, weekend gigs and the One Take Sessions held every third Thursday.
- Archiving high quality digital footage of our gigs and special performances to showcase on Kilkenny Music TV. Footage would also be used in preparation for DVD releases of gig highlights in Kilkenny on an annual basis
- KilkennyMusic.com will begin to podcast video interviews with bands both local and national in an attempt to a) boost the profile of the bands in question and b) boost the profile of Kilkenny as a “go-to” music destination in Ireland.
- Overall offer a higher quality of service across a broader media spectrum
We need YOUR HELP to achieve this goal over the next 25 days. We’ve never embarked on a fundraising adventure before though over the past two years have been delighted to accept grant funding from The Arts Office here in Kilkenny towards the purchase of live equipment.
The purchase of video equipment (estimated at just over €1,000) will enable us to push KilkennyMusic.com to a whole new level and we hope that you’d be able to make it possible. This coming Wednesday we celebrate turning 2 years old and while we’ve grown well in the last two years we’re about to get an awful lot bigger as a community.

Excellent feature ken, anything specific i can do to help feel free to ask. Maybe you could get general rock to do a fundraiser concert for ya!!!
Maybe we could, maybe we could! Anything helps at all, whether its a five euro donation from people or a 500 euro donation from people.
I’ll be pushing this out to everyone I know in the hope that we can bring some serious attention to Kilkenny’s music scene!
Free high quality gig coverage for any gig in town, can’t beat that!
Do Ye Guys Not Get A Grant Off The Arts Council?
@none - you don’t leave a name and a contact so we can fill you in?
Yes, we received grant funding from the Arts Office (not the Arts Council) here in Kilkenny, having been awarded 3,000 early this Spring.
The monies received went straight into live equipment for use with the gigs run throughout the year.
We put an awful lot more time and money into the running of KKM (last year’s figures estimated at 5 times the grant request for this year) that we try and raise ourselves - either from our own pockets (usually the case) or proceeds from gigs onces the bands have been looked after.
We’re trying to fundraise for the camera it is an immediate boost to the services offered by KilkennyMusic.com. The daily videos you see on the homepage can be replaced with videos we will be producing, our gigs will be broadcast live, bands can avail of gig recordings, video interview sessions and an awful lot more.
Funding from the Arts Office in no way covered the additional cost of purchasing a high definition video camera, although it is a purchase we have been planning since the beginning of this year.
Given that all of the services we provide are for free (we hire venues, shoulder costs, print costs, press releases, radio ads, photography, gig recordings, studio mixing etc.) we are hoping to attract sponsors or donors to a this cause, allowing us as a non-profit group to concentrate our limited finances elsewhere.
Ill help out anyway possible!
What Gigs Did You Promote last weekend.
This weekend gone we weren’t running any of our own gigs as you may know.
When we receive press packs on gigs we run them as soon as we can, as you see this morning with the Hackensaw Boys for September 30th, Sunday for the Celtic Festival at the end of the month.
Do you know what gigs were running in Kilkenny?
We pulled promotion of the One Take Sessions gig as the date was postponed, we pulled promotion of the Bad Mothers Union gig in Kilkenny as they cancelled their weekend appearance.
Rather than picking holes in what we do why not get yourself involved? If you’ve a gig you want promoted then drop me an email, its easy to find my address.
Promotion this week includes PodCamp Ireland, B & The Honey Boys in Cleere’s (21st), Dave Browne (free ticket giveaway worth 80 euro), Clive Barnes in Cleere’s on September 28th (plus free ticket giveaway) and anything else we can get our hands on.
If you think we’re missing out on something then let one of us know - thats what we’re here to do.
I think I can add to that one that we’re also involved in the launch and creation of a series of professional development courses to be offered through Art Links around the South East, starting in Kilkenny and also operating in Carlow, Waterford County, Wexford and Wicklow.
Perhaps you’ll be interested in those, never know, might learn something.
are you only going to be putting up videos of your own gigs on the internet or videos
of all local gigs?
No no, we plan on covering all local gigs and featuring all local music - whether its our stuff, the PATPH gigs you’re involved in, snippets from the festivals (roots, rockfall, arts festival), BOTB highlights and more.
The Sound System Podcast will go under a restructuring while remaining weekly whereas we’ll be bringing in irregular video podcasting and regular video clips into the site.
Keeping in mind that the purpose of KilkennyMusic.com is to promote the growth of music within Kilkenny as a whole, not just the gigs that we run ourselves.
