We’re official!
Last night, October 8th, marked the official launch of KilkennyMusic.com which puts us into full swing with our doors wide open. Some great music was had on the night, some new friends made and bands introduced as around 80 people squeezed into the back room in Cleere’s in support of KilkennyMusic.com.
Read on for more….
Opening up the night were Kieran Byrne of Silvertape accompanied by Maeve O’Reilly who provided a great set of around 7 tracks including ‘Friends and Foe’, ‘Red Chord’, ‘Fake’ and an excellent version of Mic Christopher’s ‘Hey Day’ which got the crowd up and clapping so early in to the night - a sign of things to come too.
Following a five minute interval it was the turn of Tony Hoyne, who coincidentally had his mother in attendance for the first time! A great set of original tunes were played, intertwined with a cover of ‘Cast No Shadow’ at the request of the crowd, which featured some rather interesting backing vocals from a member of the front row… Tony finished up the night by breaking out the harmonica for ‘Stoned’, ending a 7 track set.
A final five minute interval allowed the last of the pints to be ordered as The Happy Medium (Ken McGuire, Shane Bradley) took to the stage around 11:25 or so.
With the night running on, the ‘medium played a great 11 track set featuring a good range of all new material which hadn’t been showcased before (after all, thats part of the purpose of KilkennyMusic.com ) . The duo hadn’t performed live together before the night and judging by the response there will be more in the pipeline. Tracks on the night included the feel good opener ‘Toffee Pop’, ‘Little Girl’, ‘Fairytale Princess’, ‘The Warmth’ and a good cover of Del Amitri’s ‘Nothing Ever Happens’, dedicated to the hardcore fans in the front row. Forgetting the start of the 3rd verse didn’t put them off and they ‘got there in the end’ with the crowd joining in for the chorus. New to the setlist was ‘Homesick’ written in total two part harmony, a brave track to try after 12pm some might say, but ‘well executed’ was the response…
Overall a real good night was had. You’ll be hearing more from everyone involved, some new acts including ‘Lost Souls’ who were introduced to KilkennyMusic.com on the night (cheers Paul). Also there on the night were Bob & Steve from Nearly Dead Jim, James and the lads from Itchy Trigger Finger, sound was produced by Alan Dawson, and the gig was recorded for CD too with a selection of tracks being made available on KilkennyMusic.com over the next week or so.
Coming up shortly we’ll have Skylight, The 79 Cortinas, Selwyn and some real new styles of music for the scene! Questions comments and thoughts are always appreciated!
