Guitarist Mark Greene and the rest of Kidic roll into town Saturday April 28th (tonight) as part of a mini Irish tour that sees them take in dates in Cork, Dublin, Drogeda, Waterford and Kilkenny over the next month. The excellent Verona Riots will be on show as well in support to Kidic and it all kicks off around the 9pm mark (ish) in The Zoo.
Here’s a blab for you…
KIDIC are not quite rock, not quite pop, and not quite emo, but their music does rock and it does emote.
Kidic grew from the project based Kid Icarus, who over the years found their musical journeys entwining. Between sojourns in dance music, electro-acoustic music and solo projects, Kid Icarus met perennially to perform in the city.
Early on, pirate radio stations picked up on the punk sensibilities of “Jesus 2000″ and made it a summertime favourite. “Shake’s Baby” then charted on mp3.com and Kid Icarus received their first ever royalty check.
The four continued to write and record songs with individual flavours from punk to rock to folk to indie to soundtrack. The music matured and changed direction and the project became a band. The resurgence musical force is dubbed Kidic.
Kidic have borne a sound that places heart felt melody lines atop simple yet elegant chord structures. For the melancholia of chances lost, to the soundtrack to your over indulgence Kidic have a song for every moment.
Fair play to the band, they’re also booked in for the NXNE festival in Toronto over the summer and if I wasn’t tied up elsewhere tonight I reckon I’d be going along to see these guys in action. Give their MySpace a look, take a listen to the three tracks on offer and if you’re around Kilkenny tonight, head to the gig, show a bit of support.
