One Take Sessions Thursday May 8th
The One Take Sessions with KilkennyMusic.com returns for the fourth outing of 2008 this coming Thursday, May 8th, in Cleere’s Theatre. As always there will be four acts on the night and the show will be recorded for release to both the artists involved and online with KilkennyMusic.com.
Ginosko, Shane Barry, ReClaim and Wexford singer-songwriter Nick Day complete the lineup for the first of two ‘Sessions nights taking place in May.
Ginosko, stemming from the Greek translation meaning ‘to know by experience’ is the alias of Christopher Ryman and band. Christopher has shared the stage in recent times with Damien Rice, Ann Scott, Declan O’Rourke, Stefan Hanvey and more of Ireland’s established and emerging acts. A performance at the Ruby Sessions in Dublin was heralded as “a rollercoaster of evoking melody and heartfelt poems that took the silenced crowd to another place”.
Having witnessed the death of the song, Waterford’s Shane Barry consoled himself with rediscovering the song-craft of the Small Faces, Motown and the Beatles solo albums. Spending his ’lost years’ in and out of various bands playing in and out of various venues he decided to go solo in October 2007. Arming himself with laptop; guitar; piano and ukulele, Shane has been working into the early hours creating the lo-fi beats and samples that have accompanied him on his latest live efforts. Blasting out his sarcastic pop-fueled songs with equal grit and polish, he comes across as the bastard child of Bacharach and Costello.
Recent supports have included David Kitt, Juno Falls and Nick Harper. Halfway through an album with his previous band, Shane is finishing it himself and will be releasing it through his own label and touring with full band in mid 2008, including
his stop this week at the One Take Sessions.
Power trio ‘ReClaim‘, from Dublin know the meaning of indie rock. Combining provocative lyrics and arresting stage presence, ReClaim have arrived to provide you with an “exuberant slice of indie guitar-driven pop” (Jackie Hayden, Hotpress). ReClaim write songs about the human condition in the 21st century, both personal and societal. They draw their inspiration from their experiences in the working class communities they come from, and observations on the wider world and it’s history. ReClaim as a live band are not to be missed - one of the hardest working bands around they are renowned for their tightness and impressively demanding. The band have previously appeared at the One Take Sessions, making their ‘Sessions debut last Summer in Kilkenny before the release of current single ‘Seeing Clearly’ which is available on DownloadMusic.ie.
Wexford-based singer songwriter Nick Day completes the lineup for this week.
The first act takes to the stage at 9:30pm and as seating is limited, organizers urge those coming to arrive early. Admission, as always, is free so what better way to kick off your weekend?
