An alt.rock experience with a hint of punk, a dash of jazz, and a few mixed up guitar solos is about to hit Kilkenny this weekend as My Evil Ex roll into town, hitting the back room in Paris Texas (High Street) on Friday night.

They’re also bringing current EP offering ‘The Dark Days’ with them as well which should prove interesting to music fans. My Evil Ex are constantly evolving their sound and not afraid to go against or outside current musical conventions (3-part harmonies, Sax, Piano, sound effects, sound bites) to be creative and innovate. Can’t beat a mohawk thrown in there for good effect.

My Evil Ex enjoy playing as well as attending concerts (surely the lifeblood of any good musician). Because of this, My Evil Ex are known and respected on the live music circuit for shows that are always relentless and energetic. My Evil Ex have played support to such diverse groups as JJ72 and Vinny Peculiar (containing Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce of The Smiths) on their Irish tours and are regulars at the Freakscene Birthday Party (Ireland’s longest running club night).

‘The Dark Days’ opens with the My Evil Ex favourite Last Of The Big Deals - Punk ferocity tempered with the swing of Jazz (and all this in under two minutes). Track No. 2 Leaving Man is an intense Blues inspired tale of love and betrayal. The third song, 25 To Life is a lament to all things past before the ‘introduction’ of the Nanny State. Rounding off ‘The Dark Days’ is the intense and brooding Hymn To God – a song about surviving the very limits of despair.
