About the acts…
The Toronto Star declares Eaglesmith as an artist who is “without doubt, relentlessly true to his craft, to his world view, and to his fans.” With 16 independent albums to his credit, Eaglesmith has won a Juno Award - the equivalent of a Grammy in his native Canada - for Best Roots and Traditional Album - Solo and the Canadian Independent Music Award. He is the subject of not one but two tribute albums of Eaglesmith’s work that have been recorded, and his devoted coterie of fans, known as “Fredheads,” follow him from show to show. In addition to “Thinkin’ ‘Bout You” in Broken Bridges, his songs have also been used in films by noted director Martin Scorsese and actor James Caan.
The Tom Fun Orchestra is a nine-piece cluster-rock ensemble from Cape Breton Island featuring an ambitious mix of electric and acoustic instruments and enough skilled musicians on stage to intimidate even the largest crowds.”My live artist pick of the weekend was undoubtably Cape Breton’s rolling party known as the Tom Fun Orchestra. This ten-piece ball of energy put on an unbelievable set of pure joy. You should not miss them.”- CBC Radio 3 , Canada.
Just a reminder that we’re giving away tickets to see Peter Mulvey in action with Clive Barnes and Chris Pureka this Friday night in Kilkenny.
All you’ve to do is send an email to info at kilkennymusic dot com (replace the ‘at’ and ‘dot’ respectively) with the phrase “I WANT TICKETS TO PETER MULVEY” in the email. Leave a contact number and we’ll draw the winners to announce them on Thursday morning.
We mentioned it on the podcast on Friday (yep, a day late and all that) but we’re giving away two pairs of tickets to see Peter Mulvey in action in Cleere’s this Friday night. Standard ticket price is €15.
Peter’s brand new album, Notes from Elsewhere (Signature Sounds) is a retrospective collection of the very best songs he has written and performed over his 15 year recording career. Recorded solo in a studio, with just an acoustic guitar, these are fresh takes on songs that have become fan and critic favorites over the years. While his previous band-backed albums showcased the songs, these solo versions allow each song to shine on its own demonstrating Peter’s strengths as a songwriter.
I think the words “fuckin’ awesome” have been used in describing Peter on stage so it’d be well worth going to see. Hailing from the US (Milwaukee, Wisconsin to be exact), he completed a tour on both sides of the water with Clive Barnes last year and Clive (now resident in Kilkenny) will be joining him later in the night. Starting off the proceedings will be Chris Pureka.
We’ve a Peter Mulvey track on this week’s podcast show, and if you want to win the tickets all you have to do is email podcast@kilkennymusic.com with the subject “I WANT TICKETS TO PETER MULVEY”, leaving your name and a contact mobile number. Alternatively, leave your name and contact email here on this post. Winners will be drawn on Thursday morning.

On Saturday 22nd September Dave Browne and his band including a string quartet will perform live in Cleere’s, Kilkenny.
Dave will release his live EP “Prelude” in October. “Prelude”, will be a taster to Dave’s forthcoming solo album “Windows To The Soul”, which is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2008.
One of Ireland’s most respected musicians, Dave Browne up to this point is best known for being the lead singer and driving force behind The Picturehouse from the band’s inception. He is highly thought of by his peers as a unique vocal and songwriting talent together with being an outstanding piano and guitar player. “Windows To The Soul” is a very personal work and a project which Dave has being working on for the last two year.
“Windows To The Soul” represents a unique fusion of two art forms, Dave Browne and Mieke Vanmechlen – an Irish / Flemish lady who is regarded as one of the finest contemporary artists at this time and whose work has been exhibited on the continent and the USA.
Dave had been familiar with Mieke’s work for some time and Mieke his. Following a casual catch up meeting, Dave gave the artist a copy of his work in progress album. On listening to same, Mieke went into her studio and created a painting for each track she had listened to. He loved her paintings on first viewing and knew immediately that he wanted these pieces to be the artwork foundations for his “Windows To The Soul” album project.
The good stuff!
