Let The Battle Commence

That time of year has hit again, time for the launch of the Kilkenny Battle Of The Bands. Seems like only yesterday we were in The Zoo watching the likes of Act Of Vengence, Original Lineup, Scuba Dice et al go at it for the prizes on offer. Sounds like only yesterday… Jesus, listen to him go….

Tomorrow, Sunday July 29th, sees the first of four heats of this year’s competition. The number of bands might be less than last year but by no means has the desire to perform and progress declined. On stage tomorrow afternoon at 4pm we’ve got Decadation, Teratoria and Weeduggy going hard at it. The heats this year are being judged solely by KilkennyMusic.com staff with each of us tackling and grading the bands from different perspectives so you’ve got a few tough nuts to impress. Our advice to bands is that you might only get the one chance to impress in this competition so make your performance count! Original material, plenty of energy and a pure unleashing of your talent are key ingredients to moving on towards the final so make your impression while you can.

Prizes on offer this year include €1,000 worth of equipment from Essaness Music in Kilkenny, €1,000 worth of recording time from the Mill Studio in Kilkenny and a starter professional website for the winning band to the value of €700 from Kilkenny based web development and online marketing group Event Ireland. Adlib Music will also be offering up €500 to the Band’s Band - bands knocked out voting for their favourite band of the competition.

It all kicks off tomorrow afternoon in the Zoo Club at 4pm. Admission as per every other Underground Sunday is €6. Myself, Ross and Mickey Boo will be there at least, possibly alongside Daw. Ross will be providing photo coverage of the event as it happens with all photos appearing in the KilkennyMusic.com gallery a day or two after each round.
