Yesterday saw the return of the Battle Of The Bands, now it the sixth year of competition, and three Kilkenny acts taking to the stage in the Zoo Club at 4pm. For those of you who weren’t there yesterday or haven’t been following the updates here on the site, the judging panel this year is made up entirely of the KKM Crew. That said, myself (Ken), Ross, Daw and Mickey Boo kept a watch on the bands in question - Decadation, Teratoria and Weeduggy - and I reckon we enjoyed ourselves.
It is always great to see “new” bands enter the competition, or bands entering the competition for the very first time and we found that in Teratoria (it was their first time). Now, while we’re certainly not going to discuss the ins and outs of each band, I will say “fair play” to each of the three acts yesterday, you got up and gave it as best you could and I think everyone in the venue had a great afternoon.
One thing that we pointed out to one band member yesterday was that originals are the way to go. Original music was hyped up last year as that is what we live for - anyone can bang out a Nirvana cover or a Metallica cover, but we want to see who the bands really are - so if you’re reading this and you’re playing in one of the three remaining heats in August then take note!
Competition continues next Sunday with Desecrate, Bad Mothers Union, Mantra and Atrax Mantis all on the bill. Stay tuned to KilkennyMusic.com (and the podcast this week as we resume normal transmission).

Realy enjoyed the Battle Of The Bands yesterday in the ZOO Club.
It is great to see so much talent in the young people of Kilkenny.
I think Teratoria were by far the best of the 3 bands playing all there own material, a little bit less of the bad language would be appreciated, guys you are all great so you do not need to use a lot of bad language.
Looking forward to the rest of the gigs.
