It’s that time of year again when Kilkenny’s budding musicians get ready to go to battle to win the title of ‘Best Band 2008′ in the 8th Hype Entertainment Battle of the Bands competition.
Organisers are this week finalising the prizes that already include a demo recording package, an EP recording package and a website, photography and PR package for the lucky winners.
Sponsors on board so far include Broderick’s Music Warehouse, The Mill Recording Studio’s, Essaness Music, Kilkennymusic.com and Zoo Club.
Plans to launch a South East contest have been put on hold until next year as organisers are using this year’s competition to launch the BOTB for the South East in 2009.
The BOTB has been running without interruption for eight years and has become one of the most anticipated events on Kilkenny’s musical calendar. Many bands form especially to enter the competition as it is often used as a platform to launch new local talent.
“I’m delighted the contest has lasted the test of time of the last number of years and it gives me great satisfaction as an organiser to see how young bands improve every year. The contest has always been about two things – providing a platform for young musicians to display their talents and providing a social outlet for young people in Kilkenny,” said organiser Andrew McGuinness.
Last years winners, Atrax Mantis, have enjoyed a great year of recording and promotion. They are due to release new material in the coming months.
Bands are signing up to take part in the contest now and the heats will kick off in mid-July.
