Crazy song, crazy video, crazy 90s music - but you have to love it!

Do something good with your Saturday - go out and buy yourself a 90s compilation CD (car boot sale likely a good place to hunt for them!) or dig out your old tapes and play them LOUD!

New Single On The Way From Acrojunk

KilkennyMusic.com favourites Acrojunk (Waterford) are set to release their new single ‘Generation X-Squared’ next week, Friday February 8th, with the single going live on iTunes and downloadmusic.ie. Although laid up with a broken ankle, frontman Rob O’Connor was in touch earlier with the low down on the single.

Generation X-Squared, as the band put it, combines the “fiction of Douglas Coupland and the melodic tuneship of The Divine Comedy”. Also included on the single release is a cover version of ‘Teenage Kicks’ from The Undertones, Acrojunks “most interesting cover version to date”.

The band are looking to follow on the release of Generation X-Squared later this year with their first album release.

We’ve featured the lads on the podcast once or twice and had the pleasure of hosting Rob at the One Take Sessions back before we moved to Cleere’s, as well as catching one of their Kilkenny performances in 2007 (a bout of sickness kept me away from the other one in The Pumphouse) and hopefully we’ll see the lads, or Rob, back at the One Take Sessions in the next month or two.

They’ll be playing Gleeson’s in Clonmel on the 8th of February, followed by appearances in Cassidy’s (Dublin, Feb 12th) and Phil Grimes (Waterford, Feb 14th). Check their MySpace for a full list of tour dates in promotion of the single.

VOTD: East 17 ‘It’s Alright’

I’m in the mood for a cheesy video for video. Can’t beat big MASSIVE hats that would fit three heads, piano introductions, clothes that don’t fit any of the band and a load of hard-man poses.

Still… what a band.

Live it up on a Friday, come on, it’s the weekend!

Ready For Your Fill Of Heineken Green Energy?

The Kooks

The headline acts for this year’s Heineken Green Energy festival in Dublin Castle (first weekend of May) have been announced (in case you missed it yesterday) and by the looks of things it’s shaping up to be another great weekend of music.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will headline on May 3rd, Soulwax will take Sunday May 4th while The Kooks will be headlining on Monday May 5th. Sales of The Kooks album ‘Inside In/Inside Out’ has already topped the two million mark, a 2007 appearance by Soulwax / 2 Many DJs was touted in our end of year member poll as one of the best gigs in Ireland all year but Nick Cave would be the stand out act in my books.

Last year’s festival saw Kasabian and Sinead O’Connor headline the bank holiday weekend.

Anyone planning on heading along?

If you’re after tickets, get thee to Rollercoaster next Tuesday morning for 9am or see Ticketmaster.ie.

Tip of the hat to you sir.

Born in Paris 30 years ago, she (she being Yael Naim) spent most of her youth living in Israel. ‘New Soul’ is available to buy as a single on Amazon and iTunes and you’ll also find Apple using it in their new ads for the MacBook Air.

Podcast 39 Is On The Way

Show 39 of the Sound System Podcast is on the way, hopefully at some stage tonight. I’m in the revamped Studio B which has just got a new ProTools setup and some big ass monitors and I’m trying to get to grips with ProTools!

I’m an Adobe Audition man at heart, ProTools definitely being Daw’s baby (and seeing Mickey get back in there too), but it’s time for a change so if you notice anything nuts about the way show 39 is put together later, let me know!

Update: 1:14am… yeah, you’re gonna be waiting until the morning!
