The Deaf Animal Orchestra have been together since February 2006, formed by three music obsessives. Joe Harney sings and belts out the guitars, Alan Davy pounds out the basslines and Niall Hogan wallops the skins.
The boys are making loud, visceral rawk’n'roll with a sarcastic, sardonic bent. Lyrical themes revolve around instincts, troubled minds, the ego and everyone’s dear friend, alcohol. 2006 saw them test and refine their live show at gigs all over their home city, and now they’re beginning to get out around the country and make themselves known to their fellow countrymen.
September ‘06 saw the independent release of the boys’ first EP, ‘The Three Diatribes, which has been extremely well received and continues to open doors for them. Jackie Hayden of Hotpress reckons the boys are on the right track, describing them as having ‘a sizzling sound’. Road Records, Dublin’s frontrunning independent music store, liked the EP so much they recommended its lead-off track (called ‘What’s The Point’) as best new music as part of their involvement with Nokia’s new i-tunes style music store ( www.musicrecommenders.com). April ‘07 will see the orchestra launch their next release, a split single called ‘All Together Now/The Madman’. An album will follow in late autumn.
