Clergy

Biography:

Clergy first appeared on the Kilkenny music scene in January 2006, and were instantly popular. Throughout 2006 they returned to Kilkenny several times, with each gig furthering their popularity with local music fans.

In the bands relatively short two year career, they created a quite impressive CV, having previously sent themselves to the U.K. on a self financed stint, they also had a self-funded East Coast American tour, where they supported the mighty Fear Factory and ex-House Of Pain frontman, Everlast. During this thirty-day tour the band played some twenty plus shows including venues as prestigious as CBGBs, Don Hills, the Acme Underground in New York, The Webster Theatre in Hartford Connecticut and Fat Cats in Springfield Massachusetts.

On the Irish circuit, they have opened for U.S. metal giants Machine Head in The Ambassador Theatre, Dublin. They played countless numbers of live shows and gained alot of ground along the way with a reputation as a hard working, hard hitting metal band.

They claimed 1st place in Hot Press Magazines demo dip and received an excellent review in both Metal Hammer Magazine. (UK) and ISH Magazine (Eire).

Clergy’s music comprised of a mixture of full on hardcore elements, twinned with moments of trippy atmospheric fusion and pure raw nineties alternative grit. Naturally the band have many influences, though they are so wide and varied that the music does not seem seeped in already worn out riffs and styles thus giving them a unique edge.

Clergy called it a day in late 2006, playing their final gig supporting one of their favourite bands, Sikth, in the Voodoo Lounge, Dublin.

KilkennyMusic says that Clergy rock - fact! So much so that we’ve brought them to KCLR in the past and they’ve featured once or twice on the Sound System Podcast. Sorry to see them go…
