KilkennyMusic.com!!
What is it? A blog, a news site, somewhere to get free music? Maybe somewhere to chat and meet like-music fans? Somewhere to get a few videos? Maybe! But, we think it is a whole lot more.
KilkennyMusic.com launched as a one-man operation in September 2005, initially starting out with about 20 members, 6 bands and a love for music. To the present day, everything has grown - especially the love of music. As of July 2007 we’ve brought in the region of 100 acts under the KilkennyMusic.com banner and more, the site has grown with national attention and the forum boasts in the region of 1,000 registered members.
We blog, we keep people up to date with the musical happenings from Kilkenny, that magical place so often referred to as “the Seattle of Ireland” which has produced acts like My Little Funhouse, Kerbdog / Wilt, Engine Alley, Kaydee and many, many more.
We started the site to help promote music online, give bands a chance to tell the world what they’re up to. We go to gigs, meet the bands and acts, gather the news first hand and bring it back here. But we do a lot more. Living in an online world is all well and good but what about the real world? Of course, it took all of about two minutes to figure that much out so we started running gigs in October 2005 and they’re going stronger than ever today. Fortnightly or monthly, or every three weeks (with the One Take Sessions) you will find some kind of KilkennyMusic.com production happening in or around Kilkenny. While 50 acts might not sound a lot online, you can trust us when we tell you we’ve worked with a lot more.
The joy of it is that we (the royal “we” at KKM) all come from band backgrounds, some of us play on a regular basis, others haven’t played in a while but the point is - we know where bands are coming from. We know how hard it is to get noticed. We know how tough it is when a promoter forgets about your gig or you can’t find the right people to work with, or you don’t know how to get into a venue, or where to turn to for advice. So we take all our strengths, shine them up real nice, turn them sideways and produce KilkennyMusic.com.
KKM is a living, breathing entitiy. Real people with the desire and passion for music who will go out of their way to help bands, help individual acts, promote music, record music, release music, tell the world band’s stories, get the interviews, do the press releases, shoot the videos - and still have time to go to college or work a 9-5 job.
We do it because we love it. We’ve been lucky to get funding (2006) from the Kilkenny Arts Office & Arts Council Of Ireland to help us along the way and we’re ever so appreciative of it. We take the funding, invest it in equipment to bring live gigs together, pair bands together, give them the proper musical experience and everyone walks away happy. We were delighted to be included in the 2007 round of funding under the Art Acts Grant as well to continue to the future development of KilkennyMusic.com in the offline world.
KilkennyMusic.com started as a baby in 2005 but in 2007 is very quickly starting to walk tall and announce to the world that we’re here and we mean business! In the mean time, why not stick around the site, download some free music, register for free on the forums, take a peek around the photo galleries, read some band interviews, listen to our podcast….
Yes…. we do all that!

Call them the Fantastic Four, the Three Musketeers-plus-one, the Famous Five-minus-one or the Secret Seven-minus-three, these are the people behind KilkennyMusic.com who make all the magic happen and make the world a brighter place!
