Problems At The Pancake House On Saturday

Problems At The Pancake House return to Cleere’s Theatre in Kilkenny this Saturday night for the first of their summer series of gigs featuring local favourites Supernova Scotia (Kilkenny), Cars In Walls (UK) and mrpaulmahon (visuals, Kilkenny).
Supernova Scotia started out in 2006. The brainchild of David Sheenan, Supernova Scotia is a blend of electro pop with lots and lots of Zouk. Dave joined up with John Prendergast, Stephen Morton, Niall O’Regan and Neil Quigley(Jazz Panda) in 2007 and started to play live. They played their first show with Queen Kong at the Problems at the Pancake House night in Cleere’s and played there again the next night at a fund-raiser for the Devious Theatre Company. Heading through 2008, the band are now performing as a two-piece.
Cars In Walls formed in December 2006 around frontman Peter O’Sullivan. Although the band had previously been through numerous incarnations based around Peter’s music, the current incarnation represents a true collective and collaborative entity, a step forward musically for all involved.
Drawing comparisons to Arcade Fire and Sigur Ros amongst others, the bands music is a true mix of stark fragility and huge, roaring noise. Check out myspace.com/carsinwalls for music and much love.
The night will be all the more special as it will feature a show of some of the video works by mrpaulmahon, who will then provide live visuals for both groups. Paul’s work will be familiar to anyone who has seen Rarely Seen Above Ground’s live sets or have viewed his fantastic music video for Tech Noir Grand Re-Opening by The Vinny Club.
Doors open at 9pm, admission is a mere five euro and there’s a free (limited by supply) handpackaged CD for the first few in the door.

A day late, a buck short and all that carry on. The 55th Sound System Podcast touched down online just moments ago. I’ll apologise for the delay, due largely in part to the presence of the Champions League Final, some wine, some cheese, some ham, some Corona and finally, some sleep.
There’s music on this week’s podcast from Satellite Escape, Bill Minus, Daniel Jones and Chayka (upcoming guests at the One Take Sessions during 2008).
You can go listen to the podcast here or start playing from the link below.

Now that we’re actually on the right number (if you listen to last week’s show, you’ll get the picture), Sound System 55 airs later tonight, having just been recorded high in KKM Towers Studio H. I swear we’re going to run out of letters in the alphabet at some stage.
There’s a few hours down time before the mixing begins so keep an eye on the site in the wee hours of the night for the podcast.
In the mean time, you can listen to last week’s show below.
