Ground control to Major Tom…. that’s all you have to say.

Enjoy some David Bowie for your Thursday. The weekend has indeed landed. KKM goes on autopilot again from this evening as I’m gone from the office until Tuesday, unless the others take over the madhouse. Don’t forget, the podcast is out as well!

Acrojunk involved with Sproai (St. Patrick’s Day)

On Friday 28th March, two of Ireland’s finest up-and-coming bands ACROJUNK and DEAF ANIMAL ORCHESTRA return to the Pumphouse to rock black-and-amber socks off once again. After a triumphant show in the upstairs bar before Christmas, both bands are eager to burst some eardrums once again.

Waterford’s Acrojunk have had a busy time as of late. Their latest single GENERATION X-SQUARED spent the month of February in the downloadmusic.ie Top Ten chart, peaking at Number 2. Since then, they been gigging and recording in France and most recently were seen gracing our TV screens, covered in silver bodypaint and purple jumpsuits as they provided the music for Waterford Spraoi’s Giant Robot entry in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day parade. Not content with metal behemoths, they’re also fond of human-size cyborgs, having just put the finishing touches to their next single STEVE AUSTIN, written about the erstwhile Six Million Dollar Man. An album, tentatively entitled “Bricolage” will follow later this summer. www.myspace.com/acrojunk

Deaf Animal Orchestra
have been plying their simian musical wares throughout the country over the past few months. In November they grew from a trio to a quartet and haven’t looked back. You can expect to hear a lot of these rockers over the next few months as they have a slew of releases lined up from their Jam Studio sessions with producer extraordinaire and former Turn bassist Martin Quinn. On the 28th, they’ll be making their latest opus “An Ape Odyssey” available via their myspace page at www.myspace.com/deafanimalorchestra

So on Friday 28th, get yourself down to The Pumphouse and listen up to some great new tunes. Throw in is at 10pm. You can thank us for the tip later.

Rock Against Racism

Steel Pulse might be “forever, ever rockin’ against racism” but tomorrow (Sunday) comes the turn of a Kilkenny’s youth with Rock Against Racism taking place in The Zoo on Parliament Street from 4pm.

The gig is an all-ages event organised by a number of transition year student in Kilkenny and will feature young bands Decadation (winners of Best Song at the 2007 Battle Of The Bands) and Teratoria (chosen this week for 2FM’s School Of Rock Leinster finals at the end of the month) on the day as well as other performers.

It should be a great lineup for an all ages gig. Both bands above (Deca and Teratoria) have been putting in an awful lot of work on honing their sound, recording and getting their names out there. Great to see such development on the local music scene.

Anyway, get yourself to the Zoo on Sunday. Admission is six euro, doors open from 4pm with first act on the stage shortly afterwards.
