Deadline time looms to include anything on Sound System Podcast 41 which records tomorrow evening. From here in we’re setting the deadlines to Tuesday evening to get any tracks in, gig dates etc. (we have to do SOME kind of prepping for the podcast, not every week is simply ‘winging it’ in front of a mic).
Ok, a lot of it is ‘winging it’ but still…
There’s music this week from Super Extra Bonus Party amongst other acts, if you want anything included then get your mails in by midnight tonight to podcast@kilkennymusic.com (click).

Packing For Another Blog Awards Session In Dublin

KilkennyMusic.com has been shortlisted for Best Music Blog at the 2008 Irish Blog Awards. Following on from our short listing last year (final five) we’re delighted to have the blog amongst the short list nominees this year. There are a few more blogs this year than last year but having made it through the initial nomination phase and the long list phase to arrive at the short list phase it looks like we’re packing our bags for another road trip to Dublin.
On a personal note, I’ve also had kenmc.com short listed amongst more fantastic blogs in the Best Technology category, while Ross has seen his photoblog wind it’s way on to the short list for Best Photoblog.
For more on the blog awards see here, or check the short lists for all categories.
We’re delighted to be included on the roll call this year along side the following (majority of which are regular reads of mine).
- nialler9
- Cheebah
- House is a Feeling
- mp3hugger
- The Torture Garden
- Asleep on the Compost Heap
- The Red Scrapbook
- Matt Vinyl
- The Indie Hour
- French Letter
- Off Her Rocker
- Stuart Bailie
- I Prefer the Obscure Mix
Last year’s winner went to Monsieur Nialler9 and this year’s Best Music award is being sponsored by DownloadMusic.ie.
Admittedly last year we didn’t stay around the awards after the ceremony, we were talked out at that stage and also had a gig to catch at 10pm over in The Lower Deck. This year, with the extension of the short list, new music bloggers and a host of new faces turning up at the awards, we should be in for a right night’s entertainment.
Take a look at our little adventure last year.
Amy Winehouse “Cleans Up” At The Grammy’s

Whatever about trying to clean her act up in the real world, in the music world Amy Winehouse has “still got it”, a fact proven by her five awards collected at the 50th annual Grammy Awards last night.
Due to her stint in rehab in the UK, she couldn’t attend the event but still managed a live-via-satellite performance after collecting gongs for Record Of The Year (Rehab), Song Of The Year (Rehab), Best New Arists, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album (Back To Black). Producer Mark Ronson also picked up Producer Of The Year (non classical) for his work with Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen.
The Grammy’s covered releases between October 1st 2006 and the end of September 2007.
Other winners on the night included Herbie Hancock who scooped album of the year for his “River: The Joni Letters”. The musical tribute to Joni Mitchell hadn’t even broken the 50,000 sales mark in the US. You’d be used to seeing it from the likes of the Choice Music prize considering the album was up against Kanye West’s ‘Graduation’, the Foo Fighters ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ and Amy Winehouse’ ‘Back To Black’.
Justin Timberlake took Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for ‘What Goes Around…Comes Around’, the Chemical Brothers took Best Electronic / Dance for ‘We Are The Night’ while the Beastie Boys grabbed Best Instrumental album for ‘The Mixup’.
Check out Grammy.com for a full list of the winners.
VOTD: A Band Called Quinn ‘DIY’

We’re working on the forums since late last night (and early this morning).
You’ll notice the links on the homepage (top 15 posts) have now changed to /boards/ instead of /forum. This is the new location for the member’s forum i.e. www.kilkennymusic.com/boards
The software has been changed, the look and feel has been changed and there’s a few added features as well. We’ll be toying around with it for most of the day but would appreciate your comments, either by leaving a comment here, starting a thread in the forum.
There will be updates during the day (e.g. we’ve to bring the avatars back) etc. but all feedback is appreciated!
VOTD: Rage Against The Machine ‘Testify’
Something has to be listened to while all this work is going on on the forum, so here’s some Rage Against The Machine for your Sunday with ‘Testify’

VOTD: Bomfunk MCs ‘Freestyler’
One of the most popular ringtones to ever hit the Nokia 3210 or 3310 in Ireland, number one here 8 years ago…. madness. Here’s a little robot hip hop for you all the way from Finland with Bomfunk MC’s ‘Freestyler’, waking you up this Saturday!
Ro Tierney Releases ‘Tics & Politics’

“D-Day” has arrived for Ro Tierney as his debut album, ‘Tics & Politics’, is now available to buy from RoTierney.com.
Ro appeared at the One Take Sessions towards the end of last year and had some advance copies of the album with him on the night.
According to the man himself
Its been a good week so far with some great reviews coming in and news that my single “Sticks and Stones” is now on almost every radio playlist in the country including 2fm.
He’s a serious talent, there’s no doubting that and if you grab yourself a copy of the album I think you’ll find yourself going back again, and again, and again for a listen. You can order your own copy direct from Ro’s website, physical CD copies costing 10 euro and digital downloads of the full album a fiver.
