The guest list is open for this weekend’s gig. This is your chance to score a few free passes into what should be a fantastic gig with Innate (who have previously played the One Take Sessions), Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters, and Mantra (who are launching their debut album on the night). All you need to do is go to the guest list forum and add your name to the Innate guest list.
The guest list will close Friday morning when we’ll notify whoever the winner is. The gig itself is six euro, three bands, first band (Mantra) onto the stage at 10pm and if you’re in early you’ll also get yourself a FREE copy of Mantra’s album, ‘New Age History’. It all happens in Cleere’s Theatre on Parliament Street this coming Saturday night.

I’m (Ken) off down to Waterford this evening to poke his head into the studios in Beat 102-103 in Ardkeen for an appearance on Irish Beats. The show is hosted by Rob O’Connor who was a recent performer at the One Take Sessions (April 19th, check the fantastic podcast) and as far as I know we’ll be chatting about the One Take Sessions and KilkennyMusic.com in general. There’s also someone from the Candlelight Sessions in Waterford on and (I think) Darren Byrne from the Wexford Song Club appearing as well.
If you can, tune into the radio at six or visit Beat102103.com to listen live from 6pm onwards.
TONIGHT: Waiting To Explode & Lost For Karma

In case you missed yesterday’s post, tonight marks the first of two back-to-back weekends for KilkennyMusic.com Presents with Waiting To Explode and Lost For Karma taking to the stage in Cleere’s.
The Mullingar-based 4-piece were last down for the Christmas Party in December and put on an amazing set, blowing everyone away for their debut appearance in Kilkenny and we’re delighted to welcome them back to town tonight after almost five months.
Experimental rock is the flavour of the night with Waiting To Explode and Lost For Karma making the perfect on-stage compliment for each other.
Waiting To Explode are currently in the middle of an Irish tour that takes in stops in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Waterford and Mullingar along with tonight’s highly anticipated appearance in Kilkenny with Cleere’s Theatre providing the perfect backdrop for this electric and energetic band. The Christmas Sound System Podcast (part A | part B) features music from Waiting To Explode, or stop by their MySpace to take a listen. They’ve garnered rave reviews all around the country and on the back of their current EP have been earmarked as ‘one to watch’ during 2007.
They’ve got a new single on the way which was hoped to have been released around now but has been moved out to August.
Lost For Karma are on their way over from Limerick and are great friends of Waiting To Explode. Born out of a desire to reinvent the Limerick music scene and show people they didn’t have to leave Limerick to find top quality live music, the four-piece make their first KilkennyMusic.com appearance tonight and shouldn’t be missed. Their music has evolved over the last two years with the heavy edge heard in early recordings like Moment Of Impact bringing a funky edge through to tracks like Let Yourself Go with subtle shades of Incubus and Queens Of The Stone Age rumbling in the background.
Been a busy week so far for KKM and the weekend is no different! Get yourself down to Cleere’s tonight where doors open at 9.30pm with Lost For Karma likely hitting the stage at 10pm, before the boys from Mullingar literally explode onto the stage later on. Its just six bucks (that’ll be Euro) in the door tonight and if the Christmas gig is anything to go by, coupled with another 5 months of gigging under their belts, this show should really break the mould.
Hope to see you there!
Lost For Karma Join Waiting To Explode Tomorrow Night

Limerick four-piece Lost For Karma will be appearing with Waiting To Explode tomorrow night in Cleere’s theatre for the latest round of KilkennyMusic.com Presents.
Good friends of the band (and of Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters who play next weekend), Lost For Karma are Brian Fitzgerald (Vocals) Manolis Sheehan (Guitar) Paul Gill (Bass) and Craig Cullen (Drums). You’ll do well to stop by their MySpace and download their recent EP release, or take a listen to the track below.
Here’s what they say…
An eclectic circumnavigation of music with rockets of rock, rollercoasters of roll..see also glamorous, intelligent, yadda yadda emotional, inspirational, hyper-intense, incandecenance. A foursome (oh how taboo). Music for music lovers and lovers of music. Beautiful, yes. Think dancing in the moonlight..long walks on the beach..thunderstorms..falling in love…that first pull off your crack pipe in the morning. If music be the food of love, we need liposuction.
‘To Be You’ received a great review at MusicReveiw.com, calling the track one with “all of the ingredients of a hit, vocals are superb, great changes, great chorus…”.
Based in Limerick but hailing from parts as far as Greece and The Philipines, the band are real hard working and have a terrific sound, their EP impressing well at KilkennyMusic.com.
We started a band because of a frustration with the lack of a live music scene in Limerick with the aim to show people that they don’t have to travel far to see great live music.
Alt.rock might be their sound, but they bring a great funky element to their music and are the perfect compliment for Waiting To Explode tomorrow night. Feel free to download the track here - Lost For Karma - Let Yourself Go or take a listen via the player below. You don’t want to miss this one.

Free Gig In Kilkenny Tonight (10th One Take Sessions)

We’re back on the live scene tonight for the start of a busy weekend, starting off with the 10th One Take Sessions. Take a look at this week’s Kilkenny Advertiser as well for some of the press coverage including a nice story on Bill Coleman.
The four acts for tonight are
- Michael Whelan (Wexford)
- Bill Coleman (Cork)
- Von Bizmark (Kilkenny)
- Bright Light Fiasco (Dublin / Kildare)
Bill Coleman has been busy of late, the Corkman currently involved in a massive Irish tour which includes several support slots to Aslan. Ever since the release of his current album ‘I’ll Tear My Own Walls Down’, Bill has been winning praise across the country and has been compared to the likes of The Cure and Elvis Costello. His stop in Kilkenny tonight will be a solo one, before heading to Ennis on Saturday night to the Glor Theatre with Aslan and continuing on around the country through to the middle of August. You’d be silly to let the man Tom Dunne sounded out as a Rising Star earlier this year slip through your fingers - catch him in Kilkenny while you can tonight!
Michael Whelan hails from Wexford and makes his first appearance at the One Take Sessions tonight. Drawing influence from the likes of Ray LaMontagne, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Michael should bring quite a soulful set to the One Take Sessions, watch out for the track ‘Blind Reverie’ (also on his MySpace) if it gets a play tonight).
Von Bizmark have risen from the ashes of ‘The Company’ who last featured with KilkennyMusic.com in January ‘06. Career breaks, extended stays in foreign countries and whatnot now complete, the band (Tony, Johnny C and Burke) are back and have moved into a four piece. They were down for the May 31st One Take Sessions but we’ve brought them forward (they’re eager to show off) to tonight. All accomplished musicians, their last EP is available to listen on MySpace and includes the tracks ‘Lets Pretend’, ‘Eyes Drift Down’ and ‘Maria’.
Last but by no means least come Bright Light Fiasco hailing out of Dublin/Kildare. They’re currently #1 in this week’s DownloadMusic.ie charts and sitting pretty after a week or so at #38 in the Irish charts with their brand new single ‘Red Light This Morning’ which you can get a listen to on the latest Sound System Podcast (download it now!). We were looking for a way to get the lads down to Kilkenny and a last minute opening at tonight’s Sessions gave us just that chance so we’re delighted to welcome them down for an acoustic set.
Two solo acts and two bands on the bill tonight, all acoustic, all fantastic in their own right and all completely free. Come along, enjoy the music, pick up a few CDs (here’s me assuming that Bill Coleman will have his album with him and Bright Light Fiasco might have a few singles with them), and wallow in brilliance of the One Take Sessions.

They’ll be in the beer garden and doors open at 7pm with tickets €20 available from the bar directly or Rollercoaster on Kieran Street.
Then on Sunday you’ll find four acts on the bill with John Martyn and his band, Robb Mitchell and two other support acts, music starting there from 4pm. Tickets for John Martyn are €25 and also available from either the bar directly or Rollercoaster on Kieran Street.

If you’re a bass guitar player, living in Kilkenny or the surrounds, or willing to travel to KK to play a bit of music, there’s a band that could be looking for you. If you think you’d fit the indie-rock style, have played with rock groups or indie groups before and you’re looking for something new, then phone 086 1605210.
It is a professional operation, so no timewasters. The band is backed by an extremely well known Dublin agent, there’s a single in the offing, touring, the lot…
Comments are locked on this one, but if you’re interested, phone the above mobile number and tell them KilkennyMusic.com sent you. Could be your face on the TV because of it…
